Philippine SEC signals readiness for asset tokenization
The Philippine SEC is ready to regulate tokenized real-world assets, with legal frameworks and sandbox testing in place to foster innovation and safer investments, especially for OFWs.
The Philippine Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has announced its readiness to regulate the tokenization of real-world assets (RWAs), emphasizing that the necessary legal frameworks are already established. At the 2026 Philippine Blockchain Week, SEC representatives expressed confidence in their regulatory authority and ability to supervise tokenized securities. The SEC’s Strategic Sandbox (StratBox) enables fintech firms to test innovative products—such as tokenized real estate and access to US equities—under regulatory oversight. This initiative is seen as a way to drive capital market innovation and provide safer, regulated investment opportunities, particularly for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs). Additionally, the SEC is intensifying its fight against investment fraud by leveraging artificial intelligence to detect and monitor unlawful schemes. While no new regulations or product launches were introduced, the SEC’s statements highlight a proactive approach to integrating tokenization and blockchain-powered financial tools within the current legal framework.
