US directive halts Anthropic Fable 5, Mythos 5 access
Anthropic halted Fable 5 and Mythos 5 access for all users after a US directive citing national security and jailbreak concerns. Other models are unaffected. Anthropic is working to restore access.
Anthropic has suspended access to its Fable 5 and Mythos 5 AI models for all users after receiving a US government export control directive over national security concerns. The directive, issued on June 12, requires Anthropic to block access to these models by any foreign national, including employees, both inside and outside the United States. The order was prompted by worries about a potential jailbreak method that could bypass the models' safeguards. In response, Anthropic immediately disabled global access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5. Other Anthropic models remain available and are not affected by this directive. Fable 5 was designed for general use, while Mythos 5 targeted vetted cybersecurity professionals. Anthropic disagrees with the decision but has complied and is working to restore access. The models are now subject to strict export and transfer controls, shifting their status from commercial products to national security assets.
