Gemini stock jumps on CFTC derivatives license approval
Gemini secured a CFTC license to clear derivatives in-house, boosting its stock by 3.6%. The move enables new crypto products and advances Gemini’s vision for a full-stack financial platform.
Gemini has obtained a Derivatives Clearing Organization (DCO) license from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), allowing it to clear and settle derivatives and prediction market trades internally through its affiliate, Gemini Olympus. This regulatory achievement removes the need for third-party clearinghouses, giving Gemini full control over product development, fee structures, and platform growth. The approval builds on Gemini’s previous Designated Contract Market (DCM) license, enabling the company to offer a comprehensive marketplace for crypto spot trading, futures, options, and prediction markets. Following the announcement, GEMI stock rose about 3.6% in premarket trading. Gemini plans to launch new products, including crypto futures, options, and perpetual contracts, while enhancing its platform with AI-powered automated trading features. This milestone comes amid ongoing legal challenges, such as litigation with New York’s Attorney General regarding prediction markets. Gemini’s leadership called the approval a major step toward building a full-stack financial platform and super app for diverse user needs.
