Tether freezes $344M USDT on Tron in record asset freeze
Tether froze $344M in USDT on Tron, targeting two wallets linked to sanctions evasion and criminal networks, in coordination with U.S. authorities. This is its largest asset freeze to date.
Tether has frozen around $344 million in USDT across two wallets on the Tron network, marking its largest asset freeze to date. The action, executed within minutes, targeted wallets holding approximately $212.9 million and $131.3 million, respectively. Tether confirmed the freeze was carried out in coordination with the Office of Foreign Assets Control and U.S. law enforcement. The company cited intelligence linking the addresses to sanctions evasion and criminal networks. As a result, the affected wallets are now unable to send or receive tokens, effectively immobilizing the funds. While Tether has not disclosed detailed reasons for the freeze, it stated that it acts swiftly when credible links to illicit activity are identified. This move surpasses the previous record freeze of $182 million in January 2026 and brings the total amount of USDT frozen by Tether to over $4.4 billion. The incident has renewed concerns about security, regulatory compliance, and decentralization in the stablecoin sector.
