KuCoin appoints Sabina Liu to lead MiCA expansion in EU
KuCoin appoints Sabina Liu as managing director of KuCoin EU to lead MiCA-driven expansion from Vienna, focusing on compliance and regulated services across the EU.
KuCoin has named Sabina Liu, formerly of the London Stock Exchange Group, as managing director of KuCoin EU to spearhead its expansion in Europe under the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulatory framework. Based in Vienna, Liu will oversee regional operations after KuCoin secured a crypto asset service provider license in Austria, allowing it to offer regulated services across the European Union. Liu brings over a decade of experience from LSEG, where she worked with global investment banks and cross-border trading clients. She also previously led KuCoin’s institutional business. The European subsidiary will prioritize compliance, regulated services, and stricter listing criteria in line with MiCA requirements. This strategic move comes amid heightened regulatory scrutiny on crypto exchanges and follows KuCoin’s parent company resolving issues related to sanctions and anti-money laundering in the United States. KuCoin will leverage its MiCA authorization in commercial agreements, including serving as the exclusive crypto exchange and payment partner for Tomorrowland Winter and Tomorrowland Belgium from 2026 to 2028.
