Nvidia surpasses $5T market cap, announces $150B buyback

Nvidia's market cap hit $5.4T, outpacing the Russell 2000 by $2T. The company also announced a record $150B buyback, raising total authorization to $235B.

Nvidia's market capitalization soared to around $5.4 trillion by late September 2026, surpassing the combined value of all companies in the Russell 2000 small-cap index by nearly $2 trillion. Over the past year, Nvidia generated approximately $193 billion in net income, while the Russell 2000's 2,000 companies collectively lost $13 billion. For fiscal 2026, Nvidia reported revenue of $215.9 billion, marking a 65% year-over-year increase. Its data-center business alone produced $89 billion in a single quarter. Nvidia first crossed the $5 trillion market cap threshold in October 2025 and has continued to grow since then. Additionally, Nvidia's board approved a $150 billion increase to its stock buyback program, bringing total authorization to $235 billion—the largest in U.S. history. The company expects to complete the repurchases by fiscal year 2028, though the authorization does not guarantee immediate purchases. Following the announcement, Nvidia shares rose over 1% in premarket trading, and tokenized stocks also saw gains.
