Bitcoin exchange reserves rebound 84% amid volatility prep
Bitcoin exchange reserves rebounded by 84%, with 28,000 BTC returning to platforms. This boosts liquidity and reflects traders’ anticipation of volatility, bringing reserves near June’s peak.
Recent data shows the Bitcoin shortage on exchanges, seen since early summer, has ended. According to Santiment, 84% of the Bitcoin previously withdrawn from trading platforms has returned. Exchange reserves rose from 1.304 million BTC on July 28 to 1.332 million BTC by August 16, an increase of about 28,000 BTC. This influx brings exchange balances close to their June peak of 1.337 million BTC. The rise is driven by both retail and institutional investors preparing for expected market volatility. ETF-related flows, however, remain separate from public exchange balances. The rebound in exchange reserves suggests improved market liquidity and a shift in short-term supply dynamics. However, it does not necessarily signal widespread selling or a weakening of Bitcoin’s long-term supply outlook. The pace of new inflows has now stabilized, indicating a normalization in available Bitcoin on exchanges.
