Bitcoin Volatility Now Mirrors Major Asset Classes, Says Binance CEO

Bitcoin's recent volatility is seen as part of a broader market risk-off phase, with its price swings now mirroring those of major asset classes. Despite declines, Bitcoin remains resilient, trading at over twice its 2024 value.

Bitcoin's recent sharp decline is being attributed to a broader risk-off sentiment and investor deleveraging, trends that are also affecting other major asset classes such as stocks and commodities. Binance CEO Richard Teng emphasized that Bitcoin's volatility is now closely mirroring that of traditional financial assets, reflecting the growing integration of cryptocurrencies into the wider financial system. Despite a 21% drop in November and a three-month downtrend, Bitcoin remains more than double its 2024 value, underlining its resilience. Teng described the current phase as a healthy consolidation following a strong rally, rather than a structural breakdown, and noted that such cycles of volatility and consolidation are typical for both digital and traditional markets. He also pointed out that as institutional adoption increases, Bitcoin's volatility has been gradually decreasing, with annualized volatility dropping from 181% in 2013 to as low as 23% this year. The current environment is seen as an opportunity for the industry to reassess and stabilize, with Bitcoin's behavior increasingly influenced by macroeconomic factors and global investor sentiment.
