Trend Research Doubles Down: $1B Ethereum Bet Despite Losses

Trend Research plans a $1B Ethereum investment, increasing its holdings to 580,000 ETH despite $141M–$167M in paper losses. The fund uses leverage and predicts ETH could reach $10,000 by 2026, warning against shorting.

Trend Research has intensified its Ethereum accumulation strategy, planning an additional $1 billion investment despite current unrealized losses of around $141–167 million on its existing 580,000 ETH holdings. The fund, managed by LD Capital, recently acquired 46,379 ETH and used leveraged loans, including $887 million from Aave, to finance its purchases. The average acquisition price stands at $3,208, while Ethereum trades below this level. Despite the losses, Trend Research remains confident in Ethereum’s long-term prospects, with its founder predicting a price of $10,000 by 2026 and warning traders against shorting ETH. The fund’s aggressive accumulation and leveraged approach have drawn attention to institutional strategies in the crypto market, with observers noting the potential impact on market sentiment, liquidity, and volatility. Transparency concerns have been raised due to limited official confirmations, but the scale of Trend Research’s moves is seen as a significant signal for Ethereum’s future, especially as institutional buying gains momentum and on-chain activity remains strong.
