Tether backs Peso to expand USDT payments in LatAm

Tether led a pre-seed investment in Peso to expand USDT payment infrastructure across Latin America, supporting stablecoin payments in retail, e-commerce, and banking in Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, and Argentina.

Tether has led a pre-seed investment round in Peso, a Bolivian fintech company, to expand USDT (Tether stablecoin) payment infrastructure across Latin America. This investment aims to accelerate the adoption of stablecoin-powered payments in everyday transactions, including retail, e-commerce, food delivery, ride-hailing, and banking services in Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, and Argentina. Peso offers a global USDT account, enabling users to save, spend, invest, and send money internationally from a single app. The company has integrated USDT payments into Yango, a digital services platform in Bolivia, allowing users to pay for food orders directly with USDT. Additionally, Peso provides point-of-sale acceptance and virtual accounts that connect USDT to local banking systems via QR and ACH rails, facilitating seamless movement between stablecoins and local fiat currencies. The investment supports the expansion of local on- and off-ramps, aiming to make stablecoin payments more practical and accessible throughout the region. The investment amount was not disclosed.
