Bitget to acquire Thai crypto exchange for expansion

Bitget will acquire GMO-Z.com Cryptonomics (Thailand) to expand in Southeast Asia. The deal, pending regulatory approval, follows a recent Bitget security breach.

Bitget has announced its intention to acquire GMO-Z.com Cryptonomics (Thailand) Co., Ltd., a licensed digital asset exchange and brokerage based in Bangkok. The acquisition will be executed through Bitget's interest in BTGT Management (Thailand) Ltd., involving the transfer of all shares held by GMO Internet, Inc. and its subsidiaries to BTGT Management or a designated entity. This transaction is subject to regulatory approval and other customary conditions. By acquiring GMO-Z.com Cryptonomics, Bitget will gain an immediate operational presence in Thailand, leveraging the local company's regulatory licenses and business experience. This move aligns with Bitget's broader strategy to expand across Southeast Asia, a region experiencing growing demand for digital financial services and evolving regulatory frameworks. The deal follows a recent security breach at Bitget and is expected to enable the company to introduce its trading platform to Thai users once completed. Financial terms and the precise ownership structure have not been disclosed. GMO-Z.com Cryptonomics operates Z.com EX, a digital asset trading platform launched in 2021, and reported an operating loss in 2025. The acquisition remains subject to approval from Thai authorities and may face potential delays or renegotiation.
