Harvard Doubles Down on Bitcoin, Outpaces Gold Investments
Harvard University boosted its Bitcoin holdings to $443 million, nearly double its gold ETF investment, making Bitcoin its top portfolio asset and signaling a strong preference for digital assets.
Harvard University has significantly increased its Bitcoin holdings, raising its investment from $117 million to nearly $443 million in the third quarter, according to SEC filings. This move places Bitcoin as the university's top holding, surpassing stakes in major companies such as Nvidia, Microsoft, and Amazon. Despite a $40 million drop in value due to a crypto market selloff, Harvard's Bitcoin position remains substantial, accounting for 21% of its $2.1 billion portfolio. The university also increased its gold ETF allocation from $102 million to $235 million, but its investment in Bitcoin is nearly double that of gold, indicating a 2-to-1 preference for the cryptocurrency. This shift reflects a strategic allocation towards digital assets amid economic uncertainty and market volatility. Harvard's decisions are closely watched by both traditional and crypto investors, potentially influencing other institutions to consider similar moves.
