CZ foresees IPOs moving on-chain amid tokenization surge

CZ predicts IPOs will move on-chain as tokenized equity platforms like Binance’s bStocks surge. Regulatory pilots and tokenized IPOs in the US and Europe show growing adoption, but challenges remain.

Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) predicts that initial public offerings (IPOs) will transition to blockchain networks, marking a significant shift in capital markets as tokenized assets gain momentum. This trend is highlighted by the rapid growth of tokenized equity platforms such as Binance’s bStocks, which achieved over $500 million in market capitalization within seven weeks and now holds a substantial share of the tokenized equity market. The infrastructure for on-chain IPOs is advancing, with regulatory pilots underway in the US and Europe. Notably, France’s ST Group completed a fully tokenized IPO, and US exchanges like Nasdaq and NYSE have launched tokenized securities pilots. Currently, tokenized stocks represent nearly $3 billion in distributed value, with trading volumes rising, especially in pre-market derivatives linked to major companies like Anthropic. While on-chain IPOs could automate settlement and broaden investor access, existing regulatory requirements for securities remain unchanged. Industry sentiment is largely positive, but widespread adoption is still in its early stages.
