Mistral AI raises €3B, sets European tech funding record

Mistral AI raised €3B in Series D, doubling its valuation to €21B. The funds will expand data centers and AI research, cementing Mistral’s position as a top European AI startup.

Mistral AI, a French artificial intelligence startup founded in 2023, has set a new European tech record by raising €3 billion in a Series D funding round. This brings its valuation to over €21 billion. The round was led by Samsung Electronics, with participation from EQT’s Scaleup Europe Fund, PSG Equity, Advent, BlackRock-managed funds, and returning investors such as Andreessen Horowitz, ASML, and NVIDIA. This funding nearly doubles Mistral’s valuation from its €1.7 billion Series C in September 2025. The capital will primarily support the expansion of data centers and computing infrastructure across France and Europe, as well as further research and development of advanced AI models. Mistral’s open-weight model approach enables enterprise clients to retain control over their data and deployments, attracting over 125 enterprise clients in 20 countries, including major firms like Airbus and HSBC. The company’s rapid growth and record fundraising underscore its ambition to compete with global AI leaders.
