Franklin Templeton, HashKey launch tokenized fund in Asia
Franklin Templeton and HashKey Exchange launched a tokenized U.S. government liquidity fund for professional investors in Asia, using blockchain for ownership and aiming for regional expansion.
Franklin Templeton has partnered with HashKey Exchange to launch the Franklin OnChain U.S. Government Liquidity Fund (grBENJI), targeting professional investors in Asia. The tokenized fund is accessible via HashKey's Earn channel and primarily invests in U.S. government money market instruments and U.S. dollar cash assets. Each share is represented by a BENJI token, with ownership and transfers recorded on blockchain infrastructure, while Franklin Templeton maintains the official shareholder record. This offering is limited to professional investors in Hong Kong and is not available to the general public or users in Mainland China, the United States, or certain other jurisdictions. The partnership aims to expand into additional tokenized products across regions such as Singapore, Tokyo, Dubai, and Bermuda. The launch comes amid rapid growth in the tokenized real-world asset market, with tokenized U.S. Treasury and money market funds surging 1,500% to $15 billion over the past two years. HashKey operates under Hong Kong SFC Type 1 and Type 7 licenses, providing a regulated venue for digital asset investment.
