Strategy and Metaplanet double down on Bitcoin’s scarcity

Strategy and Metaplanet reaffirm support for Bitcoin’s fixed supply, holding 840,447 and 43,000 BTC. Strategy paused Bitcoin trades, raised $333.7M, and increased dollar reserves to $4.8B.

Strategy and Metaplanet, two of the largest corporate Bitcoin holders, have reaffirmed their commitment to Bitcoin’s fixed supply of 21 million coins. They emphasize Bitcoin’s scarcity as a key advantage over fiat currencies, which can be printed without limit. Despite Bitcoin’s current price being below their average acquisition cost and its movement decoupling from global liquidity trends, both companies continue to hold their positions. Strategy currently owns 840,447 BTC, while Metaplanet holds 43,000 BTC. During the week ending August 16, Strategy made no Bitcoin trades but raised $333.7 million by selling MSTR shares. The proceeds were used for preferred stock dividends, buybacks, and to boost its dollar reserves to $4.8 billion. The company also authorized up to $1 billion each for digital credit securities repurchases and common stock buybacks. Executives from both firms argue that Bitcoin’s programmed scarcity makes it a superior store of value as global money supply hits record highs.
