Metaplanet raises $1.3M with BitBonds, plans further issuances

Metaplanet raised $1.3M via BitBonds, offering 4–4.3% interest and three-year maturity. The unsecured bonds aim to provide recurring funding and may expand based on market demand.

Metaplanet, a Tokyo-listed company, has launched a continuous bond issuance program called BitBonds. In its first private placement, the company raised approximately 200 million yen (about $1.3 million) through four unsecured senior bonds. These bonds have a maturity of around three years and offer annual interest rates between 4% and 4.3%. BitBonds are issued under Japan’s private placement framework and are intended to provide recurring funding alongside common stock, equity-linked instruments, and preferred shares. The company may consider public offerings in the future, depending on market conditions, funding needs, and investor demand. The bonds are unsecured, unrated, and not principal-protected, exposing investors to Metaplanet’s credit risk and the volatility of its bitcoin-heavy balance sheet. This initiative reflects the growing integration of traditional finance with digital asset strategies in mainstream markets.
