Goldman Sachs accelerates ETF expansion with acquisitions

Goldman Sachs is expanding its ETF business with major acquisitions, boosting its assets and influence in both traditional and crypto markets.

Goldman Sachs is accelerating its expansion in the ETF sector through major acquisitions. The firm recently completed a $2 billion purchase of Innovator Capital Management, adding 171 defined-outcome ETFs and $31 billion in assets. This move significantly strengthens its position in structured investment products. In addition, Goldman Sachs has agreed to acquire NEOS Investments for up to $2.25 billion. NEOS manages $30 billion across 19 options-based ETFs. These deals are projected to boost Goldman Sachs' ETF assets to as much as $130 billion, reinforcing its strategy in active and options-based ETFs. As part of the NEOS acquisition, which is expected to close in early 2027 pending regulatory approval, Goldman Sachs will also receive BTCI, a $1 billion Bitcoin premium income ETF. This explains the firm's decision not to launch its previously filed Bitcoin covered call product. These aggressive moves highlight Goldman Sachs' commitment to expanding its ETF business and increasing its presence in both traditional and digital asset markets.
