Galaxy Digital has acquired approximately 500 acres in McGregor, Texas, to develop its second major AI and high-performance computing (HPC) data center campus in the state, following its Helios facility in West Texas. The new project, named Project Merlin, will launch with an initial 74 MW phase expected to be operational in 2028. It is designed for significant expansion, potentially reaching several hundred megawatts by 2030. The development is privately funded and includes a dedicated substation, ensuring that costs are not passed on to local residents. The project is projected to contribute at least $130 million to the local tax base and has received approval from the McGregor City Council. This initiative highlights a broader trend of crypto companies, such as MARA Holdings, expanding infrastructure in Texas to meet growing demand for AI, HPC, and Bitcoin mining. Despite recent volatility in Galaxy Digital's share price, the company remains committed to integrating digital assets with advanced computing infrastructure and supporting local communities through job creation and investment.
