BitMEX to shut down in September 2026: key details
BitMEX will close on September 23, 2026. Users must close positions and withdraw funds, or face fees on remaining balances. Accounts remain accessible for withdrawals after shutdown.
BitMEX, a pioneer in cryptocurrency derivatives and the creator of the 100x perpetual swap, will permanently shut down its trading platform at 04:00 UTC on September 23, 2026. This decision follows a strategic review by its parent company, HDR Global Trading Limited. New user registrations are now suspended. Users are urged to close all positions and withdraw funds before the deadline. Starting August 26, opening new positions will be blocked, and only position reductions will be allowed. Any open positions at shutdown will be automatically liquidated. Users who fail to withdraw assets by the deadline will incur a monthly maintenance fee of $50 or an annualized 1% levy. BitMEX assures users that funds remain under their control during the transition. After the shutdown, users can still access accounts to view balances and withdraw assets. The platform also warned users to beware of scams related to the closure and highlighted its 11-year record of no customer funds lost to hacks.
