Polygon Labs lays off staff amid $250M Coinme acquisition
Polygon Labs is laying off staff as it finalizes $250M+ acquisitions of Coinme and Sequence, shifting to blockchain payments. The restructuring aims for profitability by 2027 and includes integrating new teams and supporting affected employees.
Polygon Labs has announced staff layoffs as it completes the acquisitions of Coinme, a regulated fiat-to-crypto payments firm, and Sequence, a wallet infrastructure provider. These deals, valued at over $250 million, are part of Polygon’s strategic shift from a blockchain foundation to a blockchain-enabled payments company, with a goal of achieving profitability by 2027. CEO Marc Boiron stated that the layoffs are integration-driven and necessary for the company’s evolving structure. He emphasized that affected employees will receive compensation and support during the transition. Despite some roles being eliminated, the integration of new teams from Coinme and Sequence is expected to expand the organization overall. The acquisitions are central to the creation of the 'Polygon Open Money Stack,' an integrated platform for fiat on-ramps and stablecoin payments within a regulated framework. Polygon reports strong revenue growth, record stablecoin transaction volumes, and a robust customer pipeline as it pivots to focus on global blockchain-based payments.
