Metaplanet, JPYC & Progmat launch Bitcoin credit study in Japan
Metaplanet, JPYC, and Progmat are studying Bitcoin-backed digital credit products in Japan, aiming for efficient, transparent markets with 24/7 trading and blockchain settlement.
Metaplanet has partnered with JPYC and Progmat to launch a joint study focused on developing Bitcoin-backed digital credit products in Japan. This initiative aims to enhance efficiency and transparency in the credit market by combining Metaplanet’s Bitcoin treasury strategy, JPYC’s regulated yen stablecoin for settlements, and Progmat’s blockchain infrastructure for issuing and managing security tokens. The study will explore a variety of credit instruments, including digital corporate bonds, with the goal of enabling continuous trading, daily interest accrual, and automated settlement. The collaboration will also address legal, regulatory, and technical challenges before any commercial implementation. Metaplanet currently holds approximately 43,000 BTC as collateral for this proposed framework. The project builds on Metaplanet’s Project NOVA, which seeks to leverage Bitcoin as a productive balance sheet asset and expand access to Japan’s credit market for mid-sized and growth companies through blockchain-based solutions.
