BitTorrent unveils BTT buyback and burn program for 2026
BitTorrent will launch a BTT buyback and burn program in Q3 2026, using all revenue from its decentralized services to repurchase and burn tokens quarterly, starting mid-October.
BitTorrent has announced a long-term buyback and burn program for its BTT token, set to start in the third quarter of 2026. The initiative will use 100% of revenue generated from BitTorrent’s decentralized services, including BitTorrent Speed and BTTInferGrid, to purchase BTT tokens from the open market each quarter. These tokens will then be permanently removed from circulation through scheduled burns. The first burn is planned for mid-October 2026. For transparency, BitTorrent will publish on-chain data such as the total amount burned, its percentage of the total supply, and the transaction hash. The program will not use treasury reserves or new funding rounds, relying solely on operating revenues. BitTorrent expects that as BTTInferGrid grows, the scale of buybacks may increase. The program aims to reduce the circulating supply of BTT and potentially enhance its value proposition, though similar strategies in crypto have not always led to price recovery. BTT is currently trading over 90% below its all-time high from January 2022.
