Prediction market consolidation drives M&A activity

Prediction market platforms are consolidating as major players internalize infrastructure, driving M&A activity. Kalshi and Polymarket are seen as likely acquisition targets amid rising competition.

The prediction market sector is undergoing rapid consolidation, with major platforms like DraftKings, Robinhood, and Coinbase internalizing their exchange, clearing, and brokerage infrastructure. DraftKings' launch of its proprietary DKeX exchange, following the acquisition of Railbird Technologies, marks a significant shift away from third-party reliance and has boosted its stock price. Robinhood and Susquehanna are following suit, rebranding MIAXdx as Rothera, while Coinbase has acquired The Clearing Company. According to Bernstein analysts, this vertical integration is blurring the lines between exchanges, brokerages, and sportsbooks, creating a unified competitive landscape and increasing the likelihood of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) across the sector. Kalshi and Polymarket are identified as potential acquisition targets or acquirers, given their strong exchange infrastructure but limited consumer reach. This wave of consolidation is expected to intensify competition and may trigger further M&A activity among crypto platforms, sportsbooks, brokerages, and consumer finance companies.
