Trump unveils 10% US stake in Intel, Apple chip deal
Trump announced a 10% US stake in Intel and a new Apple-Intel chip partnership, sending Intel shares to record highs. The deal marks a major shift in US chip manufacturing and boosts Intel’s foundry credibility.
President Donald Trump announced that the United States will acquire a 10% equity stake in Intel, aiming to revitalize domestic semiconductor design and manufacturing. Trump revealed that Apple has agreed to partner with Intel to design and produce chips within the US, a move that sent Intel’s stock soaring by up to 18% to record highs. This agreement, reached after more than a year of negotiations, represents a significant shift in Apple’s supply chain, which has traditionally relied on overseas production. Trump also highlighted Intel’s collaborations with Nvidia and Elon Musk’s plans to build the TerraFab chip facility with Intel. The US government’s stake in Intel, purchased in August 2025 for about $9 billion, is now valued at over $56 billion following the stock rally. The announcement is seen as a milestone for the US semiconductor industry, enhancing Intel’s foundry reputation and encouraging further domestic investment.
