Bithumb, SSI Digital partner for Vietnam crypto exchange
Bithumb and SSI Digital will launch a regulated crypto exchange in Vietnam, focusing on compliance, security, and local expertise, with possible equity investment pending regulatory approval.
South Korean crypto exchange Bithumb has entered into a memorandum of understanding with SSI Digital (SSID), a subsidiary of Vietnam’s largest securities firm, SSI Securities Corporation. The agreement aims to establish a regulated digital asset exchange in Vietnam, marking a significant step in Bithumb’s international expansion strategy. Formalized in March and announced in May, the partnership covers the entire process of building and operating a compliant crypto trading platform. This includes technical architecture, wallet and custody infrastructure, security, risk management, and regulatory compliance. Both firms will collaborate on business and product development to attract both retail and institutional investors. The agreement also allows for a potential equity investment by Bithumb in the exchange operator, subject to Vietnam’s foreign ownership limits and regulatory approval. This collaboration highlights the growing synergy between traditional financial institutions and crypto exchanges as Vietnam’s digital asset regulatory framework evolves. With around 17 million crypto holders, Vietnam is emerging as a key market for digital assets in Southeast Asia.
