Coinbase targets Australia’s $1T SMSF market with crypto

Coinbase Australia launches regulated crypto services for SMSFs, offering trustees compliant access to digital assets. The move targets Australia’s AU$1 trillion SMSF market with audit-ready reporting and local compliance.

Coinbase Australia has introduced specialized cryptocurrency services for self-managed superannuation funds (SMSFs) after securing an Australian Financial Services License. This new platform offers trustees and administrators a regulated, compliant way to add digital assets to retirement portfolios. Key features include audit-ready reporting, downloadable data aligned with local accounting standards, and a verification process tailored to Australian fund structures. With SMSFs holding over AU$1 trillion in assets and more than 664,000 funds nationwide, Coinbase is targeting a significant segment of the retirement market. Over 500 investors are already waitlisted, with some planning allocations up to AU$100,000. The launch intensifies competition, as other exchanges like OKX also expand SMSF crypto offerings. Coinbase’s move highlights the growing integration of digital assets into traditional finance in Australia.
