Strategy pauses Bitcoin buys, holds $64B in BTC

Strategy paused Bitcoin buys after a long streak, holding 818,334 BTC worth $64.44B. The pause comes before its Q1 2026 earnings and signals a shift in funding strategy.

Strategy, formerly known as MicroStrategy, has paused its Bitcoin acquisitions for the first time in several weeks, ending a consistent buying streak that began in 2020. The company currently holds 818,334 BTC, valued at approximately $64.44 billion, with an average purchase price of $75,537 per Bitcoin. This pause comes just ahead of the company’s Q1 2026 earnings report on May 5. In the previous quarter, Strategy acquired about 89,600 BTC for $5.5 billion, marking its second-largest quarterly purchase to date. The firm is now shifting its funding approach toward preferred equity via the STRC preferred share program, reducing reliance on common-stock offerings. This strategic change has drawn significant attention from investors and analysts, as Strategy’s regular Bitcoin purchases have been a key driver of institutional market sentiment. Despite the pause, the company’s long-term Bitcoin strategy remains closely watched by traders.
