DeFi United raises $300M+ in Aave rescue effort
DeFi United raised $300M+ to address the KelpDAO exploit, with major support from protocols, DAOs, and Circle Ventures, showcasing both unity and challenges in DeFi's largest rescue.
The DeFi sector is undergoing its largest coordinated rescue effort after the KelpDAO exploit, which left Aave with significant unbacked rsETH and mounting bad debt. In response, the DeFi United initiative has quickly raised over $300 million, with more than 132,000 ETH contributed by protocols, DAOs, and ecosystem leaders. Major pledges have come from Consensys, Joseph Lubin, Mantle, and Aave DAO. Circle Ventures has announced plans to purchase AAVE tokens, providing institutional support and reinforcing confidence in both Aave and the broader DeFi ecosystem. Contributions to the rescue include donations, loans, and liquidity support, though only donations directly reduce Aave's deficit. This historic rescue highlights both the unity and the challenges of large-scale coordination in decentralized finance, as the sector strives to balance its foundational principles with effective crisis management.
