Nigel Farage makes £2M Bitcoin purchase as UK MP
Nigel Farage became the first UK MP and party leader to buy £2M in Bitcoin via Stack BTC, which now holds 68 BTC. This marks a milestone for crypto's role in British politics.
Nigel Farage has made history as the first sitting UK Member of Parliament and political party leader to publicly purchase Bitcoin. On April 13, 2026, Farage acquired £2 million (approximately $2.7 million) worth of Bitcoin through Stack BTC, a London-listed Bitcoin treasury company. The transaction took place at Blockchain.com’s London headquarters and was widely publicized, including a promotional video. Farage’s company, Thorn In The Side Ltd, owns about a 6% stake in Stack BTC, which is chaired by Kwasi Kwarteng. Recently, Stack BTC purchased 37 Bitcoin at an average price of $72,385 per coin, bringing its total holdings to around 68 BTC, valued at nearly $5 million. Stack BTC’s strategy focuses on acquiring profitable UK businesses and converting surplus capital into Bitcoin, offering UK investors a public vehicle for Bitcoin exposure. Farage’s move is seen as a landmark moment for Bitcoin in British politics, sparking both praise and criticism, and highlighting the growing intersection of politics and cryptocurrency in the UK.
