Franklin Templeton acquires 250 Digital for crypto expansion
Franklin Templeton will acquire 250 Digital to launch Franklin Crypto, expanding its institutional crypto investment offerings. The deal includes all liquid crypto strategies and is set to close in Q2 2026.
Franklin Templeton has announced the acquisition of 250 Digital, a cryptocurrency investment firm spun off from CoinFund. This move is part of Franklin Templeton’s strategy to expand its presence in digital assets and institutional crypto investment management. As a result of the deal, 250 Digital and its team—including Christopher Perkins and Seth Ginns—will join Franklin Templeton to form a new business unit called Franklin Crypto. This unit will focus on actively managed crypto investment strategies for institutional clients. Tony Pecore will also join the leadership team. The acquisition covers all liquid crypto strategies previously managed by CoinFund, with Franklin Templeton committing to invest in these strategies. The transaction is expected to close in the second quarter of 2026, with part of the payment made using BENJI tokens, which represent shares of Franklin Templeton’s blockchain-based mutual fund. This move highlights the growing trend of traditional financial firms entering the digital asset space.
