Opera seeks 160M CELO tokens to boost Celo influence

Opera proposes a 160M CELO token allocation to replace its cash deal, aiming to become a major Celo stakeholder and align with the ecosystem’s growth.

Opera has proposed replacing its current cash-based agreement with the Celo network by requesting a 160 million CELO token allocation over three years. If approved by Celo governance, Opera would become a major stakeholder, representing about 27% of the circulating supply and 16% of the token’s maximum supply. The proposal aims to align Opera’s incentives with the long-term growth of the Celo ecosystem, especially as its MiniPay wallet has seen strong adoption. The transaction would involve a one-time transfer of tokens from the Celo treasury to a wallet controlled by Opera. To address governance concerns, caps would be implemented to limit Opera’s voting power. This move highlights Opera’s growing commitment to decentralized finance and could significantly increase its influence within the Celo network.
