Ethereum Foundation stakes $140M in ETH with Bitwise tools
Ethereum Foundation is staking up to 70,000 ETH ($140M) using Bitwise’s Dirk and Vouch, aiming to boost network security, client diversity, and treasury efficiency.
The Ethereum Foundation has launched a major staking initiative, committing up to 70,000 ETH—valued at over $140 million—to network staking via Bitwise Onchain Solutions’ open-source infrastructure, including Dirk and Vouch. The process began with an initial deposit of 2,016 ETH and will continue with further allocations. This move formalizes treasury staking to earn protocol rewards, enhances network security, and supports client diversity. All staking rewards will return to the Foundation’s treasury, helping offset operational and grant costs. The initiative marks a strategic shift from passive reserves to active participation in Ethereum’s proof-of-stake system, leveraging non-custodial, institutional-grade tools for resilience and auditability. Dirk and Vouch coordinate secure validator operations, with Dirk as a distributed signer and Vouch as a multi-client verification tool. This comes as Ethereum’s staking ecosystem surpasses 37 million ETH staked, over 30% of total supply.
