Kazakhstan central bank unveils $350M crypto investment plan
Kazakhstan's central bank will invest up to $350M from reserves in crypto, tech firms, and digital finance, focusing on infrastructure and index funds. Investments begin April-May, emphasizing risk management and diversification.
Kazakhstan's central bank has unveiled plans to invest up to $350 million from its gold and foreign exchange reserves into cryptocurrencies and digital finance companies. This strategy will not be limited to direct purchases of cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum. Instead, it will also target shares of technology firms involved in digital assets, index funds tracking crypto markets, and other related financial instruments. The initiative is expected to launch around April or May, following the selection of suitable companies, and will be managed by the National Investment Corporation. Officials stress a structured, phased approach with thorough risk assessments, focusing on companies that support crypto infrastructure and digital financial services. Rather than making large direct investments in cryptocurrencies, the central bank aims for broader digital asset exposure. Combined with the National Fund and other state assets, including confiscated crypto, total reserves for such investments could reach $700 million. This move highlights Kazakhstan's commitment to economic diversification and technological modernization, building on its established role as a crypto mining hub.
