Numerai, an AI-driven hedge fund integrating machine learning, decentralized finance, and cryptocurrency incentives, has raised $30 million in a Series C funding round led by prominent university endowments. The round values Numerai at $500 million, marking a fivefold increase from its previous valuation. Existing investors, including Union Square Ventures, Shine Capital, and Paul Tudor Jones, also participated. The new capital will be used to expand Numerai’s AI engineering and research teams, increase hiring, grow its global data science tournament, and scale institutional hedge fund products. Numerai’s assets under management have grown from about $60 million to $550 million over the past three years, with a target to reach nearly $1 billion. The company plans to open new offices in San Francisco and New York City. Numerai’s investment process leverages a global community of data scientists who contribute machine learning models, with successful predictions rewarded in its native NMR token. The involvement of university endowments highlights growing institutional confidence in AI-powered, crypto-native financial strategies.
