Mirae Asset acquires 92% of Korbit for $92M

Mirae Asset Consulting acquired a 92.06% stake in Korbit for $92M, aiming to integrate traditional finance with digital assets in South Korea. The deal awaits regulatory approval.

Mirae Asset Consulting has acquired a 92.06% stake in Korbit, one of South Korea’s leading cryptocurrency exchanges, for approximately 133.5 billion won (about $92 million). The shares were purchased from major stakeholders, including NXC and SK Group subsidiaries such as SK Planet. This acquisition marks a significant step in integrating traditional finance with the digital asset sector in South Korea. It is part of Mirae Asset’s broader strategy to drive future growth through digital assets and expand its digital and tokenized product offerings. The transaction still requires regulatory approval. If approved, it will provide Korbit with substantial institutional support. Industry observers highlight that Korbit’s licensed infrastructure could be leveraged for institutional-grade services as regulations evolve, even if immediate market share gains are modest.
