Metaplanet Unveils $150M Share Issuance for Massive Bitcoin Push

Metaplanet is issuing up to $150 million in preferred shares to fund major Bitcoin purchases, aiming to strengthen its treasury and position itself as a leading corporate Bitcoin holder in Asia.

Metaplanet has announced a series of capital initiatives to accelerate its Bitcoin accumulation strategy, including the issuance of up to $150 million in Class B perpetual preferred shares. These shares, carrying a fixed annual dividend of 4.9% and convertible at a set price, are designed to raise funds specifically for purchasing Bitcoin and strengthening the company’s treasury. The capital raises, including a ¥21.2 billion ($135–$150 million) third-party allotment of Class B shares, are structured to avoid diluting common shareholder voting power while providing investors with fixed income and conversion options. All proceeds from these issuances will be used to acquire Bitcoin, reflecting Metaplanet’s view of BTC as a core long-term reserve asset and a hedge against monetary instability. The company’s aggressive approach positions it among the largest corporate Bitcoin holders in Asia and signals a significant shift in institutional Bitcoin investment strategies, especially in Japan. The new capital structure blends traditional finance tools with crypto-focused objectives, aiming to attract investors seeking exposure to digital assets while maintaining operational control and shareholder confidence.
