BlackRock’s BUIDL fund launches on Uniswap, UNI surges

BlackRock lists its tokenized BUIDL fund on Uniswap for institutional trading, acquires UNI tokens, and sparks a 40% UNI price surge. Access is limited to qualified investors via Securitize compliance.

BlackRock has integrated its tokenized U.S. Treasury fund, BUIDL, with the decentralized exchange Uniswap, marking a significant step into decentralized finance. Launched in 2024, BUIDL is backed by U.S. Treasury bills and cash, and is now tradable by qualified institutional investors through UniswapX, which uses a request-for-quote system with approved market makers. Trading access to BUIDL is restricted to whitelisted and qualified purchasers, with compliance managed by Securitize. As part of this initiative, BlackRock has also acquired an undisclosed amount of UNI, Uniswap’s governance token, which surged up to 40% following the announcement. This move is seen as a milestone in bridging traditional finance with blockchain technology, providing institutional investors with a stable, blockchain-based asset and leveraging the transparency and efficiency of decentralized exchanges. The BUIDL fund currently holds between $1.8 and $2.2 billion in market value, and its listing on Uniswap is expected to drive further institutional adoption of digital assets.
