$500M UAE crypto deal linked to Trump sparks probe

A $500M UAE investment in Trump-linked crypto firm World Liberty Financial has triggered a congressional probe over conflict-of-interest and national security concerns.

A $500 million investment by a group linked to the United Arab Emirates in World Liberty Financial, a cryptocurrency venture associated with the Trump family, has sparked a congressional investigation. The deal, finalized just days before Donald Trump’s return to office, involved a 49% stake acquisition by associates of Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Representative Ro Khanna is leading the probe, seeking detailed records on ownership, payments, and governance to assess potential conflicts of interest, national security risks, and the influence of foreign capital on U.S. technology policy. Lawmakers are also examining whether the transaction benefited Trump family assets and if adequate safeguards were in place given the political timing. Trump has denied knowledge of the deal, stating that his family manages the business. The investigation has intensified debate in Washington over the intersection of foreign investment, cryptocurrency, and political influence.
