BlackRock files for Bitcoin ETF with income strategy
BlackRock files for a Bitcoin Premium Income ETF, combining spot Bitcoin exposure with a covered call strategy to deliver regular income to investors.
BlackRock has filed for the iShares Bitcoin Premium Income ETF, a new product offering investors exposure to Bitcoin along with regular income via a covered call strategy. The ETF will hold Bitcoin and sell call options against its holdings, generating premium income that can be distributed to investors, even if Bitcoin’s price falls. The fund will also include IBIT shares and cash, relying on Coinbase Custody for secure Bitcoin storage. This approach allows investors to earn monthly income but may cap potential gains if Bitcoin’s price rises sharply, as the fund may need to sell Bitcoin at predetermined prices. This move follows BlackRock’s earlier successful spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs, reflecting a trend among asset managers to offer sophisticated yield strategies tied to digital assets. The ETF targets investors seeking income from Bitcoin while accepting some limitation on upside potential.
