Crypto startups raise $1B+ despite market and political risks

Crypto startups raised over $1B in early 2024, with $362M in one week. Despite volatility and political risks, VC funding is strong but down 50% from last year’s rally. Long-term optimism remains.

Crypto startups have secured over $1 billion in funding in the early weeks of 2024, with $362 million raised in just the third week of January, according to DeFiLlama and NS3.AI. This surge in investment comes despite ongoing market volatility and geopolitical uncertainties, including those linked to President Donald Trump’s policies and statements. Venture capitalists and institutional investors are focusing on early-stage companies and core blockchain technologies, helping shield startup fundraising from short-term market swings. Notable deals include BitGo’s $213 million IPO and Superstate’s $83 million Series B round. Although the current pace of fundraising is strong, it is more than 50% lower than the same period last year, when the crypto market was in a major rally. Investors remain optimistic about the long-term potential of the decentralized economy, but caution persists due to global tensions and political risks.
