Bankinter’s Stake in Bit2Me Sparks New Crypto-Banking Era
Bankinter has acquired a minority stake in Bit2Me, aiming to foster innovation and accelerate the crypto exchange’s EU expansion, reflecting a growing trend of collaboration between banks and crypto firms.
Bankinter has acquired a minority stake in the Spanish cryptocurrency exchange Bit2Me, joining a €30 million investment round aimed at fostering technological and knowledge synergies. This move is part of Bankinter’s ongoing commitment to innovation and collaboration with fintech startups. The investment is expected to accelerate Bit2Me’s expansion plans across the European Union, leveraging its recent regulatory approval under the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework. The partnership reflects a broader trend of traditional banks collaborating with crypto firms, rather than competing, to integrate digital asset services into conventional banking. Other notable shareholders in Bit2Me include BBVA, Unicaja, Cecabank, Telefónica, Inveready, Investcorp, and Tether. The alliance is seen as a step toward facilitating access to the crypto ecosystem and advancing the integration of stablecoins and asset tokenization within the financial sector.
