Eric Adams’ NYC Token Crashes After Launch Amid Controversy

Eric Adams launched the NYC Token to fight antisemitism and support education, but the token crashed over 80% after launch, raising concerns about transparency and liquidity manipulation.

Eric Adams has publicly endorsed the NYC Token, a commemorative cryptocurrency aimed at combating antisemitism and anti-Americanism, and supporting blockchain education. Announced during a Times Square press conference, the token is designed to fund nonprofits, Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), and scholarships for underserved New York City students. Adams emphasized the educational aspect, aiming to teach children about blockchain technology, and clarified he is not currently receiving a salary for his involvement. The NYC Token, built on Solana, launched with a total supply of one billion tokens, with 80 million tradeable at launch. Despite an initial surge to a $730 million valuation, the token's value dropped over 80% within an hour, raising concerns about liquidity manipulation and transparency, as the project’s website lacks key details. The launch also triggered a wave of copycat tokens. The initiative arrives amid ongoing debates about ethical standards for public officials in the crypto sector.
