Aave Faces Uproar Over CoW Swap Fee Diversion and Governance

Aave community members are disputing the new CoW Swap integration, alleging swap fees are diverted from the DAO treasury to an address controlled by Aave Labs, sparking debate over transparency and protocol governance.

A governance dispute has erupted within the Aave community following the integration of CoW Swap for in-platform swaps. Delegates and community members have raised concerns that swap fees generated through the new CoW Swap-powered interface are no longer reaching the Aave DAO treasury, as was previously the case with Paraswap, but are instead being routed to an address not controlled by the DAO. Estimates suggest these fees could amount to $200,000 per week, representing a significant potential loss of revenue for the DAO. The controversy has sparked debate over the alignment between Aave Labs and the decentralized community, with some accusing Aave Labs of "stealth privatization" by leveraging the DAO's brand and intellectual property. In response, Aave Labs has stated that the integrations are outside the protocol governed by the DAO and that monetizing the front-end interface is acceptable. The situation has prompted calls for greater transparency, clear on-chain audit trails, and alignment between Aave Labs and the DAO regarding fee flows and governance.
