Crypto tops X’s mute list amid AI spam and fatigue

Crypto is now the most-muted topic on X, surpassing politics and sports, as users react to a surge in AI-generated spam and low-quality posts. This reflects growing crypto fatigue among Premium subscribers.

Crypto has emerged as the most-muted topic on X since the platform launched its snooze feature on April 22, 2026. According to Nikita Bier, X's head of product, users have muted crypto-related content more than any other category, including politics, global conflicts, sports, and business. The snooze tool, available to Premium subscribers, lets users temporarily hide selected topics from their "For You" feed for 24 hours. This surge in muting is largely attributed to an increase in AI-generated spam and InfoFi apps that incentivize engagement, resulting in a flood of low-quality and repetitive crypto posts. In response, X has updated its API policies to restrict apps that pay users for posting, aiming to curb spam and enhance content quality. Bier also noted that some crypto accounts reduce their own reach by overposting or making low-value replies. This pattern indicates that crypto fatigue is now a structural feature of user behavior on X, rather than a temporary trend.
