MARA Foundation launches with $100K Bitcoin security grant
MARA Holdings launched the MARA Foundation to boost Bitcoin security, support open-source development, and fund research. A $100,000 grant will be awarded by community vote.
MARA Holdings has introduced the MARA Foundation, a new initiative announced at the Bitcoin 2026 conference in Las Vegas. The foundation is dedicated to enhancing the long-term security, resilience, and accessibility of the Bitcoin network. Its focus spans five key areas: strengthening network security—including research into quantum resistance—supporting open-source software development, expanding access to self-custody tools, advancing public policy and advocacy, and providing education for users, developers, and policymakers. To celebrate its launch, the foundation is offering a $100,000 grant to one of three organizations—SateNet, the 256 Foundation, or Libreria de Satoshi—selected by community vote open until April 29. MARA’s leadership emphasized the importance of active stewardship to ensure Bitcoin’s future as a robust, decentralized financial system.
