JPMorgan Unveils JPM Coin, Backs Bitcoin and Stablecoins
JPMorgan launches JPM Coin on Coinbase’s Base blockchain for instant settlements, identifies $94K as Bitcoin’s support level, and turns bullish on Circle, highlighting growing institutional trust in stablecoins.
JPMorgan Chase has introduced JPM Coin (JPMD), a digital deposit token for institutional clients, on Coinbase’s Base blockchain, enabling near-instant, 24/7 settlement of dollar deposits. The token, backed by insured balances at JPMorgan, has already been piloted with companies such as Mastercard, Coinbase, and B2C2. JPMorgan plans to expand JPMD to other blockchains and currencies, pending regulatory approval, and the token will be accepted as collateral on Coinbase. This move marks a significant step as regulated bank money now transacts on an Ethereum layer-2, offering programmable liquidity and instant settlement for large, KYC’d transactions. Meanwhile, JPMorgan’s latest analysis identifies Bitcoin’s production cost, around $94,000, as a key support level, limiting downside risk and supporting a 6- to 12-month price target of $170,000. Additionally, JPMorgan has turned bullish on Circle, the issuer of USDC, citing its transparent, compliant model and growing adoption of stablecoins in payments, DeFi, and cross-border trade. The bank’s endorsement signals increasing institutional confidence in stablecoins as a core pillar of the financial system.
