Erebor Secures $350M, $4.35B Valuation After FDIC, OCC Approvals
Erebor raised $350 million at a $4.35 billion valuation after securing FDIC and OCC approvals. The startup will offer traditional and crypto banking services to innovation-focused sectors.
Erebor, a Silicon Valley-based banking startup co-founded by Palmer Luckey and Joe Lonsdale, has secured $350 million in a funding round led by Lux Capital, with participation from Founders Fund, 8VC, and Haun Ventures. This investment values Erebor at $4.35 billion, more than doubling its previous valuation. The company recently received conditional approval for FDIC deposit insurance and a preliminary national charter from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, positioning it to launch as a fully chartered national bank. Erebor aims to serve sectors such as cryptocurrencies, artificial intelligence, defense, aerospace, advanced manufacturing, payments, and investment funds, offering both traditional banking and crypto-related services. The bank plans to operate without physical branches, build its own core banking system, and maintain high capital requirements. Erebor intends to facilitate stablecoin transactions, provide loans backed by cryptocurrency, and hold certain cryptocurrencies on its balance sheet, while ensuring strict compliance with financial regulations. The approvals and funding reflect growing institutional confidence in integrated digital asset banking.
