Bhutan Unveils Gold-Backed TER Token on Solana Blockchain

Bhutan has launched TER, a gold-backed digital token on Solana, managed by DK Bank and backed by physical gold. The initiative aims to blend traditional gold investment with blockchain transparency and global accessibility.

Bhutan has launched TER, a sovereign-backed digital token fully collateralized by physical gold reserves and issued via Gelephu Mindfulness City. The token operates on the Solana blockchain, offering high-speed transactions, global transferability, and on-chain transparency. DK Bank, Bhutan’s first licensed digital bank, manages the issuance, distribution, and custody of TER, while Matrixdock provides the tokenization infrastructure. Investors can acquire TER directly through DK Bank, combining the familiarity of traditional gold purchases with the benefits of digital assets. This initiative is part of Bhutan’s broader strategy to diversify its economy and integrate blockchain technology into its financial markets. The launch of TER follows similar moves by other nations and reflects a growing trend of using blockchain for asset-backed digital currencies. Gelephu Mindfulness City, a special administrative region, aims to attract global investment and foster a digital innovation ecosystem, positioning Bhutan as a blockchain-driven hub. The TER token is designed to bridge traditional value stores and blockchain-based finance, offering a regulated, transparent, and globally accessible alternative to physical gold ownership.
