Deutsche Bank unveils crypto custody service for institutions

Deutsche Bank will launch a regulated crypto custody service for institutions in Europe, supporting Bitcoin, Ether, and select stablecoins, with plans to add tokenized assets, pending regulatory approval.

Deutsche Bank is preparing to launch a regulated digital asset custody service for institutional and corporate clients in Europe. The first clients are expected to go live later in 2026, pending regulatory approval. Initially, the service will support Bitcoin, Ether, and selected stablecoins such as USDC, EURC, and EURAU. Clients will be able to securely hold and transfer digital assets through Deutsche Bank, which will manage wallets and private keys on their behalf. This approach eliminates the need for institutions to develop their own custody infrastructure. The initial client base will include corporations, asset managers, hedge funds, custodians, brokers, and sovereign institutions, with a primary focus on the German market at launch. The custody platform will feature hardware-protected key generation, separate warm and cold storage, multi-person transaction approvals, and robust backup and recovery systems. Deutsche Bank also plans to expand support to tokenized financial instruments as the product evolves, leveraging external technology providers for parts of the platform. This move marks a significant step by a major European bank into institutional-grade digital asset storage and compliance.
